omg!

yes, omg. just finished watching david cook and i <3 him! enough of the internet speak now.

he was really good and i'm glad i didn't quit watching the show, just for his second song. i'm listening to brooke now and hate the synthesizer. i'm seriously thinking of getting the itunes versions of d.c.'s second song. that was so good. bye!

addendum: i voted for him 15 times. i think they've changed their voting system finally, because i got through every time on both lines. interesting but nice that they finally fixed that deal.

Website and Cat

I just read today that in my email that cp's album is coming out in June and they have a single coming out tomorrow. I'm torn now whether or not I should do stuff with my website and what I should do with it if I do. I'll have to think about that tonight. I do have a little more time these days than I have had before.

I took Daniel to get a checkup today and he's doing well. He got 2 shots. He weighs 14 pounds. Big kitty! They said he probably needs a dental exam but that's over $300 so I'm not sure what I'll do. He did really well and I was very proud of him. He wasn't scared of a giant dog that was there barking at him, even. He's a good cat.

Various items of interest (to me)

Annuals are playing here on June 13. Anyone want to go? I will go by myself if not.

Class was good today because it was only me. I was 8 minutes late because of the book club meeting but it was fine. My teacher is sending me a diploma for the first level! :D I am now just about halfway through level 2 and I feel like I'm doing well. I've encountered a valley in terms of pronounciation. I have seen it so far as a bell curve of sorts, where I started out ok (I thought) and then got worse. My teacher was helping me with the double L today, which I was talking about to S and E. She said that I do it perfectly when I do it, but I just never remember to do it. Also, something that I think is funny is a word with "th" in it. In Icelandic they have two letters for the "th" sound, so when it's actually "th" in a word it's the separate letters. Myself and my other American classmates never remember that. There is this word athuga that is at-huga. Weird, huh? Today we did adjectives and I thought I did f-in awesome. I got all but one right.

The book club meeting was good even though I was mas o menos on the book. (Sense and Sensibility). It was good to see Laura twice in two days. (We went to Kids in the Hall last night). KITH was pretty good even though I was behind a giant head.

I am doing 6 loads of laundry so I'm out...hope everyone's well.

Atonement

I just watched Atonement and thought it was extremely good. That's all - on to BSG now.

Crazy day

We had a huge amount of layoffs at work yesterday, 10 in my division and from what I hear over 100 in the greater company. The guy that had my exact same job was laid off, so that hit close to home. My boss assured me "hell no" I wasn't in danger, but that's what all of us heard a month ago. I was terrified yesterday and couldn't sleep all night. It got to me a lot more than I would have thought. I think it was because it was such a huge number and was very sudden. I didn't see it coming AT ALL, though I probably should have. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my job because I think it's very difficult to get one right now. I somehow got into my head that our division might just shut down, because I don't know how many more people we can lose before we literally can't function, and that's what really got me. Somehow I managed to keep my job yesterday but who knows how long that will last? I don't really think that these layoffs are going to be the end of it, so I'm really pretty scared about it. I'm not sure what to do. I guess just keep my resume up-to-date. At least I'd qualify for unemployment, I think. I asked some people today whether they thought we'd shut down and they said maybe, so that didn't really help my peace of mind, but at least they were honest. It sucks being totally dependent on something you have no control over. And then to see all the news about gas prices and a rice shortage, the most plentiful food in the world. I think it's a sign of the coming apocalypse. That's cool at least...then assuming I survive I can experience post-apocalyptic life (my favorite genre of entertainment). Well, I'm going to try to nap now and watch some good TV tonight. Hope everyone is doing well!

real dolls; life masks

I watched a short documentary last night on people who own Real Dolls. And I know Sarah's going to mention Lars and the Real Girl, and so be it. I read a bunch of stuff about them today and will read some more tonight when I'm not at work on the work network. Anyway, I consider myself pretty open minded about stuff but I will admit I found this subject pretty weird. This is only because a couple of the people were treating the dolls as people and acting like they talked back and stuff. It wasn't sweet as I imagine the movie probably is. It was kind of creepy actually. I read an article that theorized that maybe doll lovers have Asperger's and I thought that was interesting. People with Asperger's can't process others' facial expressions very well and they also can't socially interact with others very well, so one theory is that dolls give them a relationship that they would otherwise not be able to get. A lot of people in the article wanted to make it clear that it was not weird and that certain people just have a need for a body to meet needs. That's one thing, but at least one person who was in the documentary and the articles I read was in love with the doll and she has her own blog and website and stuff. That part is what I found strange. One article mentioned that dolls should be seen as a method for humans not to procreate so much - as kind of an anti-natural-selector. I thought that was funny and interesting. One guy was saying that the men who need the dolls are men that shouldn't be procreating. It's interesting thinking about that because males do have this instinct to procreate as much and as often as possible and therefore the demand for the dolls is almost completely from males. I wondered if there are male dolls, and apparently there are, but they're ordered drastically less than the female ones. I'm wondering what the instances are that women would order a male doll. The stuff I read showed that by and large the men who ordered them were alone and felt very jaded by women and had sworn off them forever. Some of them had horrible stories. I was getting the feeling that all of the women in the world are supposed to be way better than these guys. It seems like there are a faction of women who would place themselves below all of the guys. I suppose it might be connected to the autism thing since autism is likelier in males. Also, I think the way women relate to men is different. I would actually put myself above a lot of guys because I understand my self-worth and know it's not the hugest deal ever, even though I don't have the greatest self-esteem, whereas when a guy can't get a girlfriend, a lot of times it seems like that's the lowest a guy can go. It just seems like girls on the market have a huge leg up (no pun intended). I've seen this quite a bit in my recent foray into dating. There are about 1700% more guys around and a girl really doesn't have a problem getting dates, whereas every guy I've talked to has all kinds of stories about how girls don't pay attention to them. I don't know if it's that girls generally don't care as much so fewer of them put themselves out there, or what. What I've found is that women have more of a problem finding a guy who is a good match than finding a guy in the first place.

Anyway another thing I was looking at today was death masks. They're freaky but cool and I decided I want to make a life mask of myself for posterity. The most striking one I saw was Lincoln, but there were also a few super weird ones. Maybe I'll post some pictures later.

Typing

Typing just struck me as really funny. Here's this board with buttons on it that you hit, and people's brains get so good at it that their hands are just pounding on this board and words show up on the screen (considering you are using a keyboard and not a typewriter). And there are different kinds of typing, too - typing as in words as in English or whatever language you speak, vs. typing as in coding or something like that where you're using completely different keys all the time. For instance, at some points in my life I was super fast at typing html code out. I also got kind of fast at typing PHP and I'm fast at CSS though that's not that hard. And then there are all the Windows shortcuts.

Daniel's birthday/our 1 year anniversary was Wednesday. I tried to give him popcorn but he didn't want it and then I tried to give him catnip but he didn't want that either. I scored on the third try, when I gave him a chicken cat food meal. Boyyyy you could hear him chomping on that from 5 blocks away. He loves those and cat milk and meaty cat treats, but I tried cat grass and he doesn't care about that or catnip or people food. I guess he's a REAL carnivore!

The other day I was watching some show and there was a liger on there and I really wanted Daniel to see it but he was uninterested. That thing was insane!

Political compass

Well, you guys all probably know how little I pay attention to politics, but today something was going around at work so I decided to take a couple of political compass tests. The results are what I thought: Democrat. More specifically, closer to Socialist and farther away from Libertarian. I'm on the liberal side and the "libertarian" side (as opposed to whatever the other side is, I already forgot), exactly opposite from W. And one of the tests was superimposed on top of some pictures of people and mine was smack dab on Hillary Clinton's face and on another one I'm right by Gandhi and the Dalai Lama. All right, peacemakers!!! I am so dumb about this that I actually don't understand how libertarian can be half of the spectrum where I am, but also only one party that's on one part of the spectrum where I am not. How does that work? So anyway....I'm pretty sure that what makes me not a Libertarian as in the party is economic stuff, right? I'm sure all of you have plenty to say and think about this blog entry and how dumb I am, so write away!

Another weekend gone

I had speaking class today and it was just as hard as last week, if not harder. Today we talked about our computers, what we feed our kids or cats, and what different rooms in the house are called.

I don't usually talk about this, but I've had a few weird date situations in the past few months. The most recent one was Saturday and it was totally bizarre. The guy was really talkative and confident before I met him, and then when I met him he was extremely shy and withdrawn and hardly talked. He appeared completely not into it (and to be totally honest, I wasn't either) so I was moving on in my life, but then he sent a text message later on that said he had fun and wanted to get together again later to watch a movie. I kind of don't think it'll happen, just because it was very obviously (to me) not a good match. And besides that, the same day I had that date another guy asked me out, who I really like a lot, and I am so hoping this one goes well. He seems great so far, and I have a "feeling" about this that I haven't experienced for quite some time...so, even if it doesn't work out, I am so happy to have that "feeling" again, since I was wondering if I ever would. I just noticed it last night. So we'll have to see how it goes. I'll probably meet him next week.

Here ends a blog entry I didn't particularly like writing, but I hope it was interesting for someone. Daniel says hello. Ég ætla að horfa á The Soup núna.

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh

I just made myself sick somehow. I was GOING to work tonight, I have to make up almost 2 hours. Blerg.............it was gorgeous out today. I cleaned a little bit. I got a new phone, it's cool but I haven't done anything with it yet. I made the mistake of activating it using my other phone. So that phone got deactivated while I was on it activating the other one. Luckily it was done. I am sure I'm not the first person who has done that.

Work was good today. I got a "good job" from one of the developers and also from the manager of the department I'm temporarily working in. Now I'm going to go sprawl out because I might vomit at any moment.

interesting

i was just talking to my icelandic pen pal stebbi (in icelandic i might add!) on IM, and my screen name on whatever i was using was easytoplease. this is how the conversation went.

s: i saw your screen name was easy topless! i understand how you are! [winking face]
e: not easy topless!!!!!!!
s: oh, you aren't like that? [wink again]
e: no! it's easy to please! do you know coldplay? (i said part of that in english)
s: what, is this a conversation in all languages now? did you just type in the wrong window?
e: no, that was right. my screen name is a coldplay song.
s: ok, i understand finally. it just sounded like you were a promiscuous woman.
e: [various shocked faces] ok, I guess!

great way to start my very first conversation, right? oh yeah and he immediately asked for pictures, and so i sent him to myspace and he said "cute". i don't know if he meant my picture or my page or something else or none of those. anyway, gee, that was interesting. he left pretty quickly because it was late for him.

New obsession

So I was reading av club today and they had an interview with Jens Lekman, who I have heard of before, probably on that site, but didn't really pay attention to. But then I noticed he is Swedish and has the same birthday as me. Let's pretend it's the same year, but it's not, it's 1981. I am so happy he has the same birthday as me...it's an instant connection. :D

I downloaded some stuff and I like it a lot. It's kind of not what I usually listen to, but it's actually surprising me that I'm enjoying it a lot. I don't quite know how to explain what it sounds like. Actually, I'm listening to this song now that's pretty great. It has a full orchestra or something and sounds like it belongs in a musical almost. Not quite that though.

I'm listening to another song now...this is insane, this music is like.............................totally bizarre and wonderful. I actually love it. Ok, this is so weird and awesome. I'm going through an existential crisis right now or something. WTF???!?!?! It just changed songs and this is ridiculous! There's a Motown-sounding choir and a friggin' steel drum??!?!?!?!??! And now, adding in a canned drum beat and a trumpet??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!? Ok, those are the ingredients of the song. Steel drum, canned drums, Motown choir, the occasional electric guitar, trumpet, and lead vocals. WTF??!?!?! And somehow it's good! Oh, here's maracas (why not?) Some yelling and clapping...of course. Oh, bongos, oh, here are some chimes or something. This is hysterical. Now I'm just hearing chaos in harmony. This is reminding me of Bizarro Sufjan.

Here are some pictures for y'all girls who like to look at cute guys like I do. In one he has a band-aid, just like Nelly...I have yet to learn if his best friend is in jail. Or maybe he had a boil on his forehead at that time. LOL LOLOLOL

:(

I'm on the computer!!!
