If there is ever a time I justifiably hate something, it's now.

When I graduated, I attempted to consolidate my loans because the interest rate was less than 3%. Well, the application was denied. Why? Because:

My contact address was the same as my emergency contact's address.

Where did it say this on the instructions? Nowhere. By the time I got that key piece of information, the deadline had passed. Well, a year has gone by and the interest rates have now changed. To over 7%. I just got my new payment booklet. And wow, was I happy. It's like the feeling you get when you buy books, and again when you sell them back. A feeling of wow, my soul just got sucked out of me.

I feel very cheated by this. None of my loans were ever 7%. The highest one was 5, and most of them were 2-3. I feel like it's enough for me to try to appeal the rejection of my application in some way, but I wouldn't know how to go about doing it. It's so maddening because it's such a gigantic amount of money. I mean, 7% of $28,000 or whatever is a pretty different chunk compared to 3%.

And now, do I try to consolidate again? Is it right that ALL of them changed to 7%? Why didn't ALL of them change to 3% last year? Because they didn't. It's probably some asshole rule that they can't go lower but they can go higher. It's just idiotic that last year I payed based on what the interest was at the time the loan was started. Again, it's probably some asshole rule that you can keep that rate while you're in school or grace period. Fuck you, morons.

The bottom line is: those of you who don't have loans, while you are Jesse Ventura's kindred spirits, are my bitter enemies right now. Well, at least, I don't like you because you don't have to deal with this shit.

Well, I guess I should be happy because the APR on my computer is currently 20%. Maybe I should wonder about that one a little more. I guess that's how they get you on those kinds of purchases.

Jesus Christ...........

Here is my ordeal currently. I was looking at worth1000.com this evening because I felt like doing some (decent) photoshop stuff. I also wanted to see if Dan actually entered his thing he did. He didn't. That's two now that he's done and hasn't entered. Anyway, the contest open right now is to have a picture of things that are fixed in weird ways. I was like, I'll do a broken ankle fixed with nuts and bolts. I really wanted to use those things that you use in bookshelves, where you put in that circular thing, and a screw comes in from the side, and you twist the circular thing and both of them are tight. I couldn't remember the name, so I searched for over an hour and finally I found it. Here it is, in case anyone wants to know.

Cam Screw and Cam Lock

Well, so I know the name of it now. I just need a picture of one or two. Do you think that's possible? NO. So here's your second piece of important information.

Photos of Cam Screws and Cam Locks do not exist.

I do have plenty of ankle photos, though.

I'm tired of this whole shenanigan, though. No photoshopping tonight. God, I have been SO intent on the computer for so long...I feel like my brain is mush.

Various items of mild interest

It is so hot outside. This is what it looks like in St. Paul:

(Isn't that a horrible Photoshop job? I didn't want to spend any more time on it. Whatever. You get the picture).

I was arguing with Dan the other day about why it is so hot. It doesn't seem natural for it to "feel like" 118 outside. It also doesn't seem natural when it "feels like" -30 in the winter. He was like "Well, the sun is closer or farther from the earth." Thanks, Dan.

I just bought this camera:

It doesn't actually contort weirdly. It just happens to be a weird looking picture. That's just the front and the back. I thought the gold would be nice. It also comes in purple, red, and black. It fit pretty much what I wanted. For some reason I was extremely into what the camera looked like. I was looking at some zdnet reviews, and going through the best reviewed ones, and if they didn't look nice, I was like "no." I finally found this one somehow...not sure how. Zdnet isn't extremely great for what I was doing because they're all "let's rank the $4000 cameras really high and forget about the others." I watched a couple of videos, and they were really patronizing about ones that were like $300 - they called them "Budget cameras". They were like "This one is OKAY, if you like BUDGET cameras." Whoa, excuse me. FYI, this one was $300. Hopefully it is good. I shall post more later on about its functionality, I guess.

Dan and I were quizzing each other on state capitols the other day. Actually, it was more of him quizzing me, because he was all "I know everything." He said "Wisconsin" and I said "Madison." He goes, "Nope." I said, "Dan, I lived blocks away from the capitol building for 5 years. Look it up." Then he did and was like, "Damn, you're right." HA! Take that, Mr. Yell-At-Liz-Because-Her-Voice-Is-Quiet. Yes, that's right. He yells at me for that, just like all of you guys. :( I try, I really try!

I drove to the cabin today for various birthdays that were being conglomerated into one party. It was a strange drive. Some of the most dangerous driving is when there are tons of cars around, but everyone is still going 70. It was also extremely windy. And the road (there is only one) is single lane most of the way. There weren't too many assholes. There were some geese that I had to swerve around. The Miss-sip river is so pretty. Our cabin is on Lake Pepin. Have any of you guys been there? Here is a screen shot of Google Earth. It is a giant chunk of SE Minnesota. That slight widening of the Miss-sip is Lake Pepin.

Here is another thing from Google Earth, in case anyone wanted to know. There is the lake I walk around. Usually I drive there, but occasionally if I want to really die, I walk there. That whole area is Como Park and the lake is Como Lake (or Lake Como?) Laura and Michael live not far to the left (West, for those of you who go by real directions). The lake has been smelling really gross lately because of the rotting algae.

I was going to talk about some of the movies I have been watching, but now I'm too lazy. This entry is already pretty long. I saw part of Philadelphia. After talking with Tom a little bit the other night, I have now become fascinated with Philadelphia. I think I need to go there. We also discussed how much of a loser I am. I was semi-sad about that idea for a while, but not too much. I am literally just not ok with going out and trying to meet people at this moment. I think things will change in a couple of months. I hope so, anyway. There is just a thing in my brain that's like, you cannot have that to worry about right now. So, I'll just wait. I'm not honestly that worried about it most of the time. I've never been a person who is very outgoing, I guess. I don't have a problem getting along with people, but I don't know...being in a new city is weird. Especially this city. People at work tell me that people in St. Paul aren't very friendly. Wonderful!!! And also, as I was telling Tom, I get so exhausted from work, that I'm basically useless on weekdays. It takes quite a bit of work to just get myself up and go for a walk. Ugh. Work really stresses and tires me out. Hey, we get to move this week. Actually, I'm very sad about not being next to Dan anymore. He helps the day go by. But I'm extremely happy that I won't be next to any annoying people at all. None. Anyway, I feel like the situation I am in lends itself more to my not knowing people. For one, I only know L&M from before. People like Dan still have all of their college friends here. Two, most of my coworkers are older, so it's tough to become friends with them. Those two things are major contributors to knowing people, I think. And after that, it's up to you trying different things. I've never had any experience making friends in situations other than school. So it's just weird. We get two new people tomorrow. We are getting six more. That means a total of like 10 new people. Jesus Christ. I hope no more of them are total tools like Mr. Keychain.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed my trying to defend my total loser-dom. I don't really know what to think about it. I just hope nobody looks down on me for it. I am not that sad about it most of the time, and I know what to do when I need to, when the time comes.

One bad thing and one funny thing

The other day I put this benzoyl peroxide stuff on my face before I went to bed. I've done that before, many times. Well, at least 25 or 30. In the past few months. For some reason, this time my face decided it didn't like it. Whoa, major rash. It really hurt. Now I have some remnant on the corners of my mouth. Not the most fun thing ever.

The other thing: I went to the grocery store today, and bought a 12-pack of Mountain Dew (among other things). I also got one of those 20 oz bottles of it. So, the funny thing is that any time I get pop I store it in my trunk because I am too lazy to bring it upstairs. Then I just remove a can from my car anytime I need it. So, I have like 7 empty 12-pack containers in my trunk. They are not all Mt. Dew. Well, as I was loading my car with the groceries, an older couple walked by me. Here are the comments of the woman: "Wow, it's a hot one out here." "Look at all the silver cars in the parking lot." "She really likes Mountain Dew." Hahahaha! I felt dumb, because hey, they're all empty and I'm too lazy to remove them from my trunk. What else is in there? A thing of cat litter. Remember the time I almost got a cat? That was from then. The nice thing is that the rest of my car is spotless. As far as crap goes, anyway. It's not "clean" spotless because my mom took really shitty care of the car. Anyone who has been in it might remember the giant polyurethane stain on the passenger seat.

STARGATE TONIGHT!

Guess what?

Danny (Michael): Yes, sweetheart?

Elizabeth: I AM GOING TO MEET YOU IN LESS THAN A MONTH!!! ACTUALLY MEET YOU!!!

Danny (Michael): It is truly a dream come true. For both me and you.

Another one

Here is Joel that I am mildly in love with. Apparently he is way different than I thought. Actually, I had no idea he was 13 years older than me. I also had no idea he had 2 kids. Also, no idea he had a lot of body art. He was actually sort of annoying me the other day, anyway, so whatever.

Dan

I spotted Dan looking at myspace today, and although he claims not to be on there, he is. Here is his page. It's VERY informative (by the way, I'm being sarcastic).

I have no faith left in people

Hi and welcome to your dose of great mood today. As usual, I'm pissed off.

You know what? I am tired of this blog. I don't want to write anymore.

P.S. I hate everything.

Hot

It is hot out therre. I spelled that that way on purpose.

Since I was going to my cousin's birthday party tonight, I took my nightly walk this afternoon. Christ, it sucked. I didn't even realize that it was about 95 outside. I thought it was low 80s. So anyway, I get to the parking lot and was like "sweet, nobody's here!" Then I get about 1/4 of the way done and go "oh, that's why." Not a good feeling to do exercise in the beating sun, at 4pm, when it's 95. And there are barely any trees covering the path. There are plenty around, but not many actually planted around the path. Oh, well.

The birthday party was insane. Paige (who turned 3) is actually a very mean little girl. She's the one that just takes stuff away from other kids just because she feels like it. There were twin one-year-olds there that were adorable.

There is no point in this blog entry. I really hope Mr. BG lookalike writes back before tomorrow evening, because I need to cancel my subscription. I just looked at the site and it says he is online now. Please be writing me back!!! I also hope Dan doesn't accidentally come across my profile before then. That would be slightly weird. But funny.

P.S. I just realized that one of my missing posts explains BG lookalike. It is Ben Gibbard lookalike.

Annoyed

I am getting increasingly annoyed by my posts not being emailed to my blog. It just quit working the other day. I am so used to emailing instead of coming on the blogger site. I have probably lost at least 4 entries in the past few days. This sucks. Anyway, I emailed a guy on match.com that I think is unbelievably cute, and he hasn't responded yet (I do know he looked at my profile thing because you can check that). I hope he does respond...as I said, he is unbelievably cute, and appears funny and interesting (from the 3 paragraphs I have read).

What have I done?

I am so not ready for dating, yet since I signed up for match.com less than 24 hours ago, I have already gotten 3 messages. Yowza................I think I need to get myself off of there for a while. Well hey, at least I know that 3 guys are interested in me.

My sister

My sister just informed me that she went on depression medication. She's not even 12...

Somehow this information makes me feel sicker than anything I've heard in a long while. Not because she's taking medication, but that she's that depressed at age 12. She is going to have a hell of a life for the next decade. And after that. I am really worried.

Thanks a lot, mom, for these incredible genes! All your daughters want to kill themselves!!!

WTF Is With Posts Not Being Emailed To My Blog?

I found out today that Dan is on match.com (I looked over his shoulder when he was checking his email). So I registered there because I want to see how he advertises himself, and if there are any pictures I can show you people. I cannot find him, though. I did find one guy who looks like Ben Gibbard. I want to send him a message that says that. But that would be weird. I'll probably be searching through that damn site all night.

I don't think he cared about the phone conversation. He probably liked it. He likes attention. I sat there watching him do Photoshop for like an hour today. I have more to write about regarding that, but I am really hungry.

Well, that's what I sent, and it didn't get posted on here, so I'll just add to it now.

Today I went out to lunch with Dan, Pete, Lance, Dave, and Gina. I loved it!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't the most exciting event that I've ever attended in my life, but I loved it anyway. We went to Don Pablo's.

Later, I was the least constructive person ever. I did about 1 hour of work today. The rest of the time I was tooling around in Dan's cube, pretty much.

The funniest thing about today was that we all figured out that we really dislike this Kris person. He is in a separate room with another new guy and they actually shut the door while they're working. Huh? That's just wrong. And he just has acted like a dick to everyone. So we all bitched about him at lunch.

I was riding in the car with Dave and Gina and Dave was talking about how annoyed he gets with Dan and Dan's stories. Dan is quite the storyteller. But it amuses me. I like to listen, and he likes to talk. Works for me. Dave's baby just turned one year old yesterday!!! Woohoo! And I got to see Patrick's baby today, he brought her in briefly.

I sat around watching Dan do some Photoshop stuff and then said, "sorry I just sat here for half an hour." He did not care at all. And later he actually came into my cube while he was on the phone. So I think that says that the phone situation from yesterday was fine. Plus, I asked him later on if there is any situation in which he'd feel uncomfortable telling someone something to their face (well, it was in context, I didn't just ask that out of the blue). He said no, "except telling kids the truth."

What else...he said that he would consider me a friend if I did this one thing for him. I said no, and "Oh, NOW I'm your friend, when you need something done." We also had many "fights," more than usual.

I almost feel like I should go in tomorrow because I did so, so little today. Seriously.

Oh, and Dave kept saying at lunch that "there is a single woman at the table, and you're doing this?" I felt very special when he did that, haha.

I made a good joke at lunch, as well. It involved yelling "HOT PLATE!"

Etiquette Question

I wonder what you guys think of this situation.

Today I was sitting in Dan's cube and we were looking at some stuff online (today we looked at safe houses), when he got a call on his cell phone from a friend. I thought it would be quick so I just stayed there. Then, it got longer and longer, but I was extremely, extremely tired so I just stayed sitting there. I wasn't really listening, but at some point it got kind of awkward and then it was a situation where if I left it would be weird, but it was weird sitting there as well.

So the question is, do you think that was really weird of me? Should I have left right away? I would have, but I was so tired. I tried to say that but he kind of cut me off. I don't think he really cared or noticed, but it has been bothering me.

Dan had a nice outfit on today. He can be kind of stylish sometimes. I found a way to really piss him off. Just argue that anything made of Lithium will explode when it touches water. That was what I did all day long. He spent a lot of energy trying to beat down my stupid, baseless arguments.

Assholes: heed my warning

If there is anything that gets my goat more than assholes not blinking before they change lanes, it's assholes who HONK at you when you're turning left at a light. Jesus Fucking Christ.

There was this asshole just now who was tailgating me on this curvy road and I could just tell he was going to do something idiotic. So then we get up to a light where I have to turn left, and so I inch out as much as possible, and of course, turning left on the opposite side is a gigantic SUV, so I couldn't see who was coming. And this idiot behind me honks at me, after seeing that I have stopped. Well, I'm sorry if I don't want to DIE by being hit by another CAR in the oncoming TRAFFIC! Besides, if I did go, there would be someone else honking at me from the oncoming traffic for going!

You see what I have to deal with? Who in their fucking skull honks at someone turning left at a light? Seriously? Do you not see that I am trying to see if I'm going to get hit and die? What a fucking jackass. I hope he/she eats poison.

And the moral of the story is: if you really want to piss me off, be an asshole driver. Drive really fast, weave between lanes, and honk at me, the one going the speed limit and following traffic directions. That will make me LOVE YOU!!!

Aggression/Google/Mercedes

I have posted this twice and it hasn't gone through yet. I can't figure out why.

I just had my first instance ever of expressing aggresion in the form of exercise. I was doing my nightly walk and suddenly remembered a bunch of stuff that made me angry. So I started walking faster and faster and soon sweat was pouring off of me. It was a good exercise and I felt great for about 5 minutes afterwards, and then I felt like vomiting. I really, really need to figure out what DOESN'T make me feel like vomiting. Lately it's literally everything. It's getting very old.

---------------

Today Dan was Googling himself and me, and I was so nervous he was going to come across my blog. I don't know what I would have done if he had found it. THANK GOD I removed my last name. I would probably have pleaded with him not to read it. I don't really care, honestly, but I wouldn't want him to read it while I was standing there. He found Emily's website and looked at it briefly (but was sad that the picture of me was tiny - it was just that front page he looked at). He also found the page for the org. Bright and I used to work at (don't want to say the name of it) because there is a thank you to me and some others at the bottom of it. He also found a page that is for my library award, which I just recently found myself. Here it is:

http://www.library.wisc.edu/libraries/news/newsletter/42/awards.shtml

That took me forever to find. There you can see a sort of bad picture of me (because apparently at the time I thought it was cool to squish my chin back on to my neck) and a couple of people we worked with, including the infamous Thomas, and Vicki, Peter (who knows Icelandic) and Nolan.

Dan did not have anything online, but he promised to bring a newspaper article that he was in.

Today we also looked at survival equipment, volcanoes, cameras, and baby names. Yesterday we looked at office jokes. Most of the ones we found were dumb.

----------------

Today Dan crept up to my cube and we had the following conversation:

Dan: Hey, you know that new guy Kris?
Me: Mr. Keychain? [I gave him that name because of his fucking keychain that he wears on his belt so that when he walks you can hear him all over the entire office. For that reason alone I hate him]
Dan: Yeah, Mr. 50,000 Car? He owns a 50,000 Mercedes. Me and Seth saw him drive up just now.
Me: Where is it? I want to see.
Dan: I don't know. Let's go look.
Me: I get the feeling he doesn't like me.
Dan: I get the feeling he doesn't like anyone. Prick.
Me: [laughter]
Dan: What?
Me: Oh, I'm just laughing at the situation.
Dan: Yeah. The lowest-paid employee at Merrill owning the most expensive car.

So I thought that was hysterical. So it wasn't just me, he really is kind of asshole-ish. Haha!

Dan did not have anything online, but he promised to bring a newspaper article that he was in.

Today we also looked at survival equipment, volcanoes, cameras, and baby names. Yesterday we looked at office jokes. Most of the ones we found were dumb.

Baghdad Cafe

"Calling You" is apparently from the score of "Bagdad Cafe" (sic). I just put that onn my Netflix queue.

I found this snippet while I was googling that.

8) She Is - Dream Brother - Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan covers Jeff Buckley, with a soft, deft touch.

[runs to itunes] please please have this. I bet it's some weird bootleg or something.

Dammit, it was TIM Buckley. Stupid internet misinformation.

P.S.

I meant to say $50,000 in the last post (actually 50,000 dollars was what I was going to write). Where did the last post go, anyway?

Here is a sentence I am somewhat ashamed to write. On So You Think You Can Dance, they played a Celine Dion song which I originally heard as a Jeff Buckley song. I wonder who actually wrote it. I am too lazy to look it up.

Convention

I am really excited. I can't stop thinking about it! :D

Monday, July 17, 2006

So

I purchased the more expensive ticket. I did this after obtaining some advice from other con-goers at www.gateworld.net.

I have decided I want to get a digital camera. It will be nice for the trip. I shall be looking online for good deals. Then, I am not going to buy ANYTHING for the next long, long time. Except food. And necessities, like cable and netflix. :) And my 1,000 bills. It is so weird how bills increase once you are out of college. I don't know how they do it. But I mean, we had 3 at Mifflin and 2 at Johnson. I now have at least 9, not including rent. Wahhhh. The worst is fuckin' school loans. But I guess they are "good debt" - according to The View.

On The View today they said that you should always have 3 months' wages saved up. I wonder if I have done that. I don't think so. I can't really remember exactly how much I make. Ugh, I hate spending money. But, I figured I might as well do it, for multiple reasons. It will be my big splurge vacation for the year.

I am, however, proud that I started a 401(k). At the ripe old age of 24 I have over $200 saved for retirement. How kind of morbid and sad! But good, I guess. I hope I live that long.

I was freaked out today when going to pay my Marshall Field's bill. A bunch of stuff was already entered in. Like, I went to register on their little online payment site and I had already been registered. I am trying to remember if that was part of the application. I can't remember. It probably was, because who else would put "eabaker2" as the user name?

I am way, way too lax when it comes to being worried about identity theft. I should probably do something about that. I think that mainly it's because I spend so much time on the computer that I basically am a computer, so I don't really see it as a threat at all. It seems like it's more scary to people who don't know anything about it. That could be good or bad, I guess.

But really, companies do such a good job of being secure, I don't think it's that huge of a deal. The bigger problem would be if someone decided to hack into your computer, I guess.

Anyway, I'm going to try to bulk up on my SG knowledge in the next 1.25 months.

If I was the person running against Tarja Halonen, I would feel bad and like the world was unfair.

Heat

I think the temperature is whacking out the temperature gauges. Earlier on my google page it said Roch. was 55 (I was like, not fair!) and then 2 minutes later it was back up to 90. Just now it says it's a balmy 70 up here in the STP. no way, it's 91. Apparently somewhere in SD it was 120 yesterday. Yowza. Joel from work, the guy who I'm mildly in love with, who is also an English major, was in SD this weekend (quite a trip, I think). He said it was extremely hot.

Suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what ticket package I should by for the convention? I am torn. Here are the choices. I wish everything was separate so you could choose what you want to go to, but it's not. I would be willing to do the expensive one, but I'm not really sure it's worth it.

This one is $370:
1) Reserved seating in the front for everything
2) Celebrity dessert party with Michael Shanks and Jason Momoa, with "paparazzi style" photo ops and meeting the actors
3) Complimentary autographs from 5 of the actors (including MS, which is probably all I'd get)
4) Celebrity "Cabaret"
5) First to get autographs when done row by row.
6) Fantastic complimentary gift
7) Wristbands for immediate entrance without waiting on line after initial registration.
8) Pre-Registration
9) Breakfast and Charity Silent Auction (the breakfast doesn't include MS, I don't think)

This one is $170:
1) Reserved seating (Seats located behind or to the sides of Gold Patrons.)
2) Same autograph thing
3) Celebrity cabaret
4) Among the first to get autographs when done row by row, you go right after the Gold Patrons so your wait is much less!
5) Wristbands for immediate entrance without waiting on line after initial registration.
6) Pre-Registration

There are other tickets that are lower, but I'll def. get one of these. You can get the celebrity breakfast thing separately ($80), and you can also get photo ops ($55 for MS) and autographs ($30 for MS) separately.

So really the main thing I'd be missing out on is the dessert party, which I think looks awesome. I don't know though. I don't know what it would be like to attend something like that by myself. So that's why I hesitate. I would be upset if it turned out to be awkward or boring.

I don't know. I think I'll probably do the cheaper one, but I'm just pissed about that dessert party thing. Can you imagine meeting Michael Shanks? I mean, I really love him. However, what if he doesn't get to me? Then I'd be pissed, and I'm not the type of person who would go around trying to get to him.

-----------------------------

There is this show on Sundance called House of Boateng, and they are offering a Sweepstakes, of which the main prize is a trip to London with all this shit included, liike $1000 spending money and "high tea" (couldn't you do that here??? Just drink tea in an elegant manner!). You can enter once a day, and it just started on Thursday. I'm leaving it open on my computer so I can enter every day until Aug. 8. MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! London!

It's weird though because he's a menswear designer and one of the things you get is a custom fitted suit. I hope that when they look at who they pick they don't throw it out if you're a girl. That would just be ridiculous. The rules are a little sketchy on that matter (It says something like "the judges have authority to make any decision on the winner" or something)

I wonder how many people get Sundance and watch it and will enter that contest. I wonder if there is a part of the country where tons of people watch Sundance. Like New York City, or something.

Well, off to watch Subterranean.

Movies

Usually I watch about 10 movies on the weekend, but this time I watched a few less because I went to L&M's last night. I thought I would comment on them this time, because my choices were particularly funny.

Blow
This was ok. Kind of sad. Penelope Cruz didn't show up until 3/4 of the way through the movie. I kept looking at the info to make sure she was actually in it. At some point I noticed that Johnny Depp had black eyes and his partner Diego (who was Hispanic) had blue eyes. That was funny.

Latter Days
I didn't watch this whole thing, but I got hooked when the guy with the blue background attempted suicide. I had to see what happened. The movie is about two guys who fall in love. One of them is Mormon (guess which one). Hijinks ensue. It was LOGO's #3 movie in their Top 50 LGBT movies, or whatever it's called.

Millennium
This choice was a result of my looking at On Demand Free Movies and searching through the Sci-Fi/Horror section. It was made in 1989. The main characters pissed me off because they were all 1989-looking. I didn't watch the whole thing.

Angel of the Night
This movie was hysterical. On Netflix I have been trying to get Scandinavian movies, and this was one of those (it's Danish). It was hysterical for a few reasons. 1) They tried to use way too many graphic effects, like local cable commercials. It made my eyes bleed. 2) They used dubbing and it was horrible. And the only subtitles were in Spanish. I in fact put the Spanish subtitles on, so that I was looking at Danish, hearing English, and reading Spanish. I thought that was pretty funny. 3) It was just a weird story. 4) It was really cheesy. 5) I don't know if Scandinavian films are way more raunchy or what (I haven't really noticed it), but they kept throwing in things like, "Check this out! I'd love to use this as a dildo!" or "Maybe he stuck this up his ass" or "Why don't I fuck this bat skeleton?"

Gattaca
This was really, really good. It is about genetic engineering (of humans). I didn't notice until halfway through that "Gattaca" is spelled with DNA bases. I wonder if it means anything. Probably not. I really enjoyed it. Not sure what else to say about it.

Three Times
This was an IFC movie that I saw on On Demand. It was pretty good, but kind of "What message is this trying to put across?" The guy is one of the guys from Crouching Tiger. The movie is about three different love stories from three different times (guess which ones). In 1911 she is a geisha, in 1966 a pool hall girl, and in 2005 just a typical young person, except with epilepsy, and she is a lesbian, and in a band. I liked the 2005 part because it showed how you type in Chinese. Yes! I've always wondered. For future reference, you just type keys and little boxes come up for you to choose which characters you want. It's sort of like texting (in normal mode, not word recognition mode), if you guys have done that. You just keep hitting the button until your letter comes up in the little box. I also liked it because they showed Taipei, which was fascinating to me. It's insane - there's stuff everywhere. And the traffic looks unbelievable. I'll include some pictures below. The 1911 one had really pretty costumes and a couple of scenes of cool traditional music.

follow-up

i'm pretty sure it's just twisted or sprained or whatever. everything i'm seeing online looks like that. and it seems like it hurts in the tissue-type areas, not the bone. and i didn't hear or feel anything break. it was one of those things where i missed the bottom step and landed on the outside of my left foot. i scraped up my foot and toes and both of my elbows, weirdly enough. (and my ego - HA HA HA, nobody has ever made that joke before!!!)

anyway, i still managed to drive to the post office, where i mailed a package to emily. emily, it could very well not get to you because of 1) insufficient postage, 2) customs checks, 3) arriving after you leave, 4) being stolen by people in your building, 5) any other of assorted issues. i used a padded envelope and the postage that it gave me was for a large envelope. which sounds fine to me. we'll see.

anyway, i think i'll call my dad to see if he has any suggestions, and then probably just lay low. i was just slightly freaked out when i woke up today because i was like "i don't want to have to walk around on crutches..."

ankle

Last night I fell down some stairs outside and did something to my ankle. It really hurts. I was wondering if any of you have ever had an ankle injury and what it felt like. I almost threw up when it happened, for some reason. I'm really nervous that I broke it, because I do not want to go to the doctor. For one thing, I don't have the slightest clue where to go. And I just don't want to have broken something. It REALLY hurts right now, though. I can move it up and down a little but not side to side at all. It hasn't really swelled that much.

The funny thing is that Dan and I were just talking about pain tolerance and breaking body parts, and how I was accident prone so I need to be pretty tolerant for pain. So I guess in the scheme of things it doesn't really hurt that bad (not gall bladder attack bad) but it is a constant dull ache that I would rather not have.

Bette Davis eyes

I did it one more time and finally got Drew Barrymore for myself with 72%. She's always the person I consider myself to look most like. Does that sentence make sense?

Bette Davis came up. I've apparently got Bette Davis eyes. But I have them in the G.P. sense, not the scratchy-cover-my-ears sense. And if you understood that, you're probably either Sarah or Emily. I fuckin' hate the original! Who the hell is it, anyway?

This is the picture where I have Bette Davis eyes. I took like 8000 tonight because I thought I needed a new one again. This shot says, to me, "I'm really confused but I'm going to pretend that I think whatever you're saying is funny."

Here is a sunset view of downtown Minneapolis from L & M's new apartment (taken last Sunday). Gorgeous, is it not? Their new apartment is incredible.

Dan and I have been having a great time at work the last couple of days. Today he took 3000 mg of tylenol by mistake (6 500 mg caplets). That was hysterical. Who takes 6 pills of anything? Apparently him. I don't particularly know what was so funny the last couple of days but I've been enjoying myself.

We have 3 new people and we're getting 3 more. One is the guy I helped to train, Chris, who looks like Mr. Wright. The other two are my age. One is called Lam (he is SE Asian) (I'm thinking of our conversations about this in Madison a few weeks ago). The other guy is Kris. I think that if I saw him randomly I'd think he was cute, and he has the style I like. But for some reason he just does NOT like me. Either that or he is a very cold person. But I've seen him interact with people (he has really taken a liking to Christi) and he just, whoa, really dislikes me for some reason. Sorry, Kristian. oh well. He has a really noisy keychain and is generally a pretty loud person when talking and laughing. And he seems kind of abrupt. Lam is very, very, very quiet. Of the three new people I know one is called Nancy and we might have another called Brian. We'll see. Some people have moved into their new areas in the office. I kept meaning to write about Kris and how much he seems to dislike me, but I forgot.

Is it really bad that I'm really enjoying this Dashboard performance on Leno right now? Laura, did we miss that show? blah.

face recognition

I did Brighton since she'll probably never be able to find a picture of herself that she thinks will be good.

Julia Roberts
Kate Beckinsale
Jessica Alba
Ricki Lake (weird)
Cybill Shepherd
Chelsea Clinton
Annika Sorenstam (the pic they use of her is terrible)
Rachel Bilson (yay Bright, you look like someone from the OC)
Faye Dunaway (yay Bright, you look like someone much older than yourself. I bet you enjoy that :) )

I tried Gwyneth Paltrow and she didn't even come up on her own results. That's how great and accurate this is. I know she is on the list because I looked.

I tried three different photos of myself and didn't get one same result except Scarlett Johansson. Hey, I don't mind that.

My two sisters had a few in common and I had a couple in common with Suzanne.

This thing is addicting.

Everyone Must Try

There's this face recognition thing that I just did that matches your face up with celebrities. Everyone has to do it.
If you don't want to register, you can use my account. elizabeth.amy at gmail (in normal format, of course) and the password is Elizabeth1.

Here is my list with best match at the top.

Patricia Arquette
Scarlett Johansson
Britney Spears (wha?)
Ava Gardner
Vivien Leigh
Ninet Tayeb
Emmanuelle Beart
Heidi Klum (yay, a model)
Margaret Atwood

Alas, no Gwyneth. Well, everyone, do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A thought that's been thought a million times before

This day will never happen again. What a weird thought. It came to me when I woke up and it came to me again while I was sweltering during my nightly walk. I was about halfway around the lake (which is apparently my new "hangout") and I started to smell the algae that had been rotting in the sun, the 90 degree heat, and the intense humidity all day. And for some reason that moment was the time my brain chose to realize that this day will never occur ever again.

I was also realizing that there I was, walking alone along a dimly lit path at twilight. If there is any part of my life that somewhat resembles CSI, that would be it. I think from now on I'll go a little earlier, if I can stand it. I went later so it would be cooler, but honestly, the bugs were worse than the heat would ever be.

I'm proud of myself for all that I have accomplished, being alone. I think I'm a pretty well-established adult. I'm completely self-sufficient and I'm only a year out of college. I live a pretty good lifestyle, and I have done a lot of things that I am proud of. Like getting a job and living by myself and being able to pay my loans, etc. I think the biggest thing for me is that the little things that you don't really think about, like fixing crap, are things that I have had to learn. I've always thought that one of the nicest things about having a guy around is that he could help figure out stuff like that. Not that I'd expect a guy to fix everything, but at least it would be another person to help. Instead, being by myself I have to do everything myself. And I think it's a strengthening situation to be in. Another thought that's been thought a million times or more: the only person you can truly depend on is yourself. I think that doesn't quite relate 100%. It does relate in the sense that I can depend on myself and I do.

So anyway, back to watching Mulholland Drive. I think i've seen enough David Lynch movies where I'm starting to be able to pick out his idiosyncrasies. I might even be able to list them offhand if given the chance. He is WEIRD.

I had to post this

I thought this was hysterical. And though I have read an insane number of hysterical things on this site (The Hater at The Onion AV club, too lazy to find a link), so many that I can't even post them all, I had to do this one.
-----
Now that the circle is complete and The Hater has been mentioned in the hallowed webpages of Star magazine (Seriously. Check it out.), there's never been a better time to rag on the tabloids some more. Specifically, their "Fashion Police" and "Style Violatons" sections.

You know how these work: a round-up of some of the worst, fourth-tier comedians are given pictures of celebrities in dumb outfits; they try to out-pun, out-reference, and out-lame each other; then you read it and wonder why, God why, does this happen every week.

Here's an example:

love

Ugh.

C'mon, SZISH. You're barely not trying. Is that the most unclever Jennifer Love Hewitt reference/insult you can think of?

What about:

"I Know What Her Hair Did Last Summer!"

or

"Can't Hardly Wait till she fixes her hair a way that is more aesthetically pleasing to me!"

or

"She may be a Ghost Whisperer, but that hair is frightening!"

or

"Her hairstyle is unflattering. Garfield!"

Am I forgetting any other Jennifer Love Hewitt projects that can be expertly weaved into a comment about how bad her hair is?

Rutabagas are gross

I tried to prepare some tonight and I didn't like them. They smell gross. They are very sweet and I was expecting a potato-ish taste. The smell is really horrible.

I walked around Como Lake today. It took less than half an hour, which surprised me. It was 1.6 miles. It looks like a gigantic area, but hey, less than 30 minutes. There were approximately a million people there.

I think that I need to do something regarding my situation. I'm going to wait and think until my trip to Chicago. After that I am going to see what's up, like if my job gets any more interesting or if Dan has quit yet. At that point I'm going to be forced to do some things anyway, like see a doctor since my prescription will be up. I'll also try to decide whether or not I can stay here and if it is possible for me to go to London. If I need to look for another job, I'm going to wait until October or November.

By that point, the Tom situation will be obvious. I now feel badly because he has a bad rap with everyone who knows me. Well, I'd just like to say that it isn't his fault. 1) He really is the most caring person I have ever met. He was a person who really made me feel important, and especially, more important than others, which is a difficult thing to do. If I was ever close to being someone's #1 person in that way, it would be him I guess, because of that. 2) He's the smartest person I have ever known. 3) Everything else. And, I don't know why I think about him the way I do; it's one of those things that just happens. I am upset with him because of his not-replying-age. Which probably has a very good reason, and it's probably that he doesn't know what to say or something.

I'm going to try not to talk about it anymore. It's hard not to, because it takes up about 92% of my thoughts daily. But I know it has to be the most aggravating thing ever for people who are reading it.

Then again, who cares? My blog should represent my thoughts. I'm surprised it isn't made up more of my complaining. Congrats to me for holding back.

Actually, that's what 92% of my thoughts are. Thinking about the aforementioned issue and then being pissed off that I'm thinking about it, and getting annoyed with myself.

I really love Bright Eyes. A Lot. There is this song called "Old Soul Song" that lately I've been taking in like it's food and I'm starving.

Should I even submit this entry? Whatever. You decide if you think it's important or not. Most of what I say is not.

Snap!

I had a moment of glory today in a meeting. It was our weekly maintenance meeting where we go over all of our projects. Everyone is in the meeting. So here's what went down:

Patrick: So, what's up with the 8-page brochure?
Dan: I'm working on it. It's just that there are 20 billion lists on it.
Me: And it takes 30 years to finish!

[Whole room erupts into laughter; Liz gets inflated ego]

Oh yeah, that was nice. Later:

Dave: All I have to say is...SNAP! That was great!
Me: I know, I was pretty proud of that.
Dave: Yeah, me too! Any time you can overtake Dan like that is a great time.

w00t! Yes, I just said w00t!

Later on we were talking about how I work a lot and Dan doesn't, and our manager said that I am a work horse and Dan is Miss Congeniality. He was like, "Yes, I create entertainment." And I said, "And, you're pretty!" But nobody heard that. I thought that was funny. We kept on referring to that the rest of the day.

We also had this absolutely hysterical conversation about roman numerals. It involved a statement that someone made. The statement was about some text that needs to go on a postcard. Here is what he/she said:

Sold in X Days (with X being a variable)

Dan thought that was so funny, and he said, "Wait, I thought it was going to be Sold in 10 days using a Roman Numeral!" Then we came up with a whole product line that uses Roman Numerals. He made a little logo for it and everything.

Saturday

It's going to be 97 and humid on Saturday.

I hate it here

I know I'm going to be whiny, and I can always be proactive and try to meet people, but I just feel like being whiny right now because, well, right now I hate everything. My job is horrible and I think Dan is going to quit soon. He always talks about quitting and I think he was serious today. He thinks it's starting to make his resume look bad. I hate where I live. I don't understand why in movies everyone knows everyone where they live. Nobody has ever introduced him or herself here. My neighborhood is shitty because in the immediate area and to the west and south it's all commercial buildings. To the north is a gigantic park. To the east is some residential area that quickly becomes very ghetto-ish. I live very near a university but it's all blocked up from the businesses. I hate only knowing two people in the entire metro area. I hate that every day all I do is work and it is so unfathomably meaningless. I honestly wish I could just die right now. And I hate Tom for everything he has done to me. The least he could do is acknowledge in some way that he received word from me. I don't care at this point whether he replies or not to everything, because I'm 99.99% sure I'll never hear anything. But I thought that it was basic human decency to say something when obviously this is the most pressing issue that I've ever had to face, and he knows it. Sure, maybe he's been on vacation for three weeks. Maybe he doesn't work there anymore. Maybe 80 million things. But still. Chances are none of that is true. If there is one thing that really makes me wonder about the human race, it is when you ask someone a very important question and they just don't respond. And I know a few of you told me this might happen. And I knew it as well. But does that mean I can't be mad about it? The guy I was "seeing" last year did the same thing to me. And you know, it's basically the shittiest fucking thing you can do to a person. It's saying, "you aren't even worthy of any response. You're no better than a piece of gum stuck under a table, or an ant that I step on with my shoe." It's so aggravating. Because I miss him SO fucking much and I need him to tell me to go away, and to explain why, or say that he's married now, or that I'm a selfish pig, or something, anything. I am dying every minute of the day. My mind is completely obsessed. I honestly feel that it would be nice to be brain dead. I hate him for this. But I don't. Fuck, my mom just called and is coming over tomorrow. Wonderful.

Sephora

Sephora is seriously detrimental to my finances. I went there with no anticipation to buy anything, and walked out with a $40 perfume (the cheapest bottle they had of it), a $20 eyeshadow, and a $25 blush. AAAAHHHHH! But I HAD to!

I am now in love with Nars (www.narscosmetics.com). They have the most gorgeous stuff. I got some eyeshadow that is midnight blue and sparkly, and therefore, will probably use it very infrequently. I wish I had more chances to go out places. I would have bought everything of theirs, but I limited it to eyeshadow and blush (which was also sparkly).

The perfume I got was Flower by Kenzo (www.kenzoparfums.com). I am not one for perfume but, again, I smelled it and was like "MUST BUY!" I love it. And then was like "Shit, it's $60 or something for a regular bottle. So I got the lotion version. I smelled your kind, Laura, and really liked it. It almost smells like a cocktail or something.

Luckily, I did not buy anything else at the mall. (I went to Mall of America, by the way). Primarily my purpose was to get some walking in. I went to this store called Torrid which is apparently like a Lane Bryant of alternative styles. I made up that comparison in my mind. I have lately been wanting to dress more alternatively. I wish I could be a combo between haute couture and goth and emo. But I can just never find the right things. I have ideas in my mind, but where do I wear these ideas? I can't wear my ideas to work. So anyway, this Torrid store was really good for my ideas. They had all kinds of jersey dresses. They had a lot of black stuff, too, which is not quite what I like.

I went to Taco Bell and the cashier guy was inexplicably sullen. It was almost humorous. He didn't say a word to me. I was trying to be nice but he zapped that right out of me...jesus, sorry you're having a shitty day, guy. Guess now I will, too.

I'm seriously disturbed at how people seem to be very busy right now. I don't know if I'm on here way more than usual or if people are out doing stuff in the real world. It's weird. Well, just makes me realize more and more how I have NO SOCIAL LIFE.

I'm probably going to the grocery store tonight. How sad is that? Honestly? It's Saturday night, and I'm probably going to the grocery store.

Bit the bullet

I bit the bullet and called to book the hotel for my convention. It was $109/night. Which was more than the web rate, but oh well. At least I get a "special" "present." The woman on the phone was extremely helpful. That helped a lot.

Now, to buy the tickets.

I briefly thought I had a letter from Tom today and nearly had a heart attack. At this point, I honestly would not be surprised if he didn't reply at all. Which sucks, because I think that if I had a chance to really badger him, I could get an answer, but I think that would really, really bother him. It's a sad situation. Maybe he's been out of town the whole time. I'll just tell myself that. It's a vacation period of time, anyway.

Hysterical piece o' info

I'm getting invited to a coworker's wedding, which is in October (Patrick's). I'm very excited and pleased that he felt like he could invite me. He didn't really invite that many people from work (around 10 I think). Anyway, he is the one that went to UW-Madison for a semester and he said a bunch of his friends are coming from there. I hope some of them are single. I think they'll be around 26. Am I completely crazed? No, I'm just a girl who is young and single and I like guys. So anyway, he was talking about it today and said, "hey, guess who YOU get to sit next to!" The answer was Dan. I'm relieved about that because I'll feel way more comfortable that way. He also mentioned that we are seated right next to the bar. I think that it is going to be a hysterical and unforgettable night. I'm excited!!! :)

Today I crossed a weird unspoken line in my friendship with Dan by asking him to open a bottle for me. Somehow that really was just too husbandish. I don't think he thought it was as weird as I did. But, I was having a lot of trouble and he got it open.

We both got in trouble the other day for looking at nice hotels online for a long period of time. Today we looked at private islands. I escaped the lure of the islands quickly because I was afraid of getting in trouble again.

Saddened

I am saddened by how few emails I have gotten lately. Someone send me email! Pretend I am someone famous. Pretend I am Gwyneth Paltrow. Most people would have something to say to her, right?

And now I am saddened that I just appealed pitifully for attention. Am I 4 years old? Apparently.

Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom! Look at that boat! Look at that boat! Look at that boat! Look at that boat! Look at that boat! MOM!!!!

Weekend

Here is what I did this weekend (Nikki, I'll be sure to mention you, Nikki) (Hi, Nikki)

Friday:

I left at like 5:30 and got there around 10. We didn't really do anything that night. We talked and then slept. My hip became literally fused to the futon because there was a bar jamming into it all night.

Saturday:

We woke up and talked to Emily a little. I was sad because she was sad she couldn't be with us. We went to the Farmer's Market. It was crowded, as usual. I didn't get anything, but the green beans were tempting. Brighton got 8453 baked goods. Then we walked down State Street and went to Fuddrucker's for lunch, which is where the old Discount Records is. (I told you, whoever it is I told!) It was good, but they put in a ton of mirrors and they freaked me out. If you ever want me to be uncomfortable, use mirrors in your interior decoration scheme. Brighton ate more food than I could even imagine could fit in her stomach. I don't think she felt very well. After that we went to library mall and sat around. NIKKI appeared for a while after sailing and then left. We watched people for like 9 hours (more like 2). Then we went back to the apartment and got ready for Rhythm & Booms. We drove to the park and got an ok spot. Then we had to walk there, and on the way I got 3 blisters as well as chafing on my legs, because I had on a skirt and terrible shoes. Nice one, Liz. While we were sitting there, it was announced that the show was cancelled. So, we walked back to the car (I thought I was going to die). We went to Pizzeria Uno and ate there. Then we went back home and rented a movie (Bounce) and watched it and went to bed.

Sunday:

In the "morning" we went to Pizzeria Uno again (a different one). The waiter was weird. Sarah may have known him. There was a terrible kid there. Then we went to Sarah's parents' house to get a cooler. While there, her parents arrived from a motorcycle trip. It was decided beforehand that we were going to a movie and Penny decided to come with us. So we went to see "The Devil Wears Prada" (is that the title? It's sounding weird right now). It was ok. I was disappointed at the ending. Then, Penny went home and we went back to get ready for R & B again. We packed a lunch and then drove there. We were able to park a lot closer. I wore tennis shoes. We got the same spot on the lawn which was a nice spot. There was a massively annoying group behind us. I forgot my string cheese and was upset. They had a technical difficulty during the show, which was weird. Also, there were a lot of misfires. It took forever to get out of the street we were on. Then we went home and pretty much went to bed.

Monday:

We woke up and decided to go downtown again. We went shopping a little bit (I can't believe I was able to get away without buying anything - it's a first for me). We went to Taco Bell/Ian's for lunch. After that I was forced to go into Memorial Library, since I had jokingly mentioned it before ("Hey, we should go in the library and surprise them, hahaha!" "Yeah, that would be great!" "Dammit") So, despite almost vomiting, we went in and talked to our old boss (Jessica) a little. It was nice. I'm glad I don't work there anymore because I would be sad. It's changed a lot. Apparently Liz H's last day was last Friday, which shocked me. The new person doing "my" job is called Kevin. We then went to the Union and sat around for a while. It was hot. We went home and sat around and then decided to go to dinner, which we did, at Bluephies (with NIKKI and Stacy). It was a difficult dinner for me. I was tortured by 1) the bread, 2) the pasta, 3) the wine, and 4) the desserts (which everyone got - thanks, guys!!!) Just kidding. If I can't handle things like that, then I'm in the wrong "line of work". I had a salad which I pretty much didn't like at all. So, then we wanted to play Clue somewhere, and the first idea was Border's. Well, we went there and realized we didn't have dice. So Sarah and I ran over to Walgreen's and got some dice. As we returned, we discovered that they were about to close. So we decided to go downtown to the Union, which we did. I became a genius last night and thusly wore my heels, so I walked 50% as fast as others and also made myself want to cut my feet off. We played clue and Stacy's sister Jenna, who had joined us, won. After that we decided to go drinking. We went to Brocagh and I had a Grey Goose (absolutely DISGUSTING) and Captain Morgan (better, but not excellent). Bright had 4 shots of Bacardi and was pissed that she wasn't feeling it. Stacy and Sarah had some stuff I don't remember. I felt very drunk, since I had downed pretty much 6 oz. of vodka and 6 oz. of rum, and haven't dru(a)nk anything in a year. So that was fun. On the way back to the car I seriously was worried I wouldn't be able to do it, because my feet hurt SO badly. But I did. When we got back Bright and I had another couple of oz. of Bacardi because we wanted to stay up (it was about 2). So then the three of us (Stacy just dropped us off) stayed up until 5, and had the most in-depth conversation ever about sex. It was very eye-opening. Then we went to bed (it was light out by then).

Today:

We went to Monty's Blue Plate Diner for lunch at like 2. Then we came home and looked at some of B's pictures (of which she apparently has over a thousand). I started feeling really bad so we stopped and then just sat around until I decided to leave around 5:30. I was being an asshole because I had a headache, and decided that I should remove myself so as to quit being asshole-ish to them. I felt better by the time I got home. The ride was not bad. It took 4.5 hours. I saw a ton of cops. I was followed by one for a while, but not stopped (this happened to me in town a couple weeks ago as well).

So that's what we did. I can't remember anything specific at the moment except that we had a conversation with NIKKI about birth stuff, and that the most annoying chipmunks ever to exist are located in their vicinity. I don't care who you are or even if you breed chipmunks, or even if you are a chipmunk. You would want to kill these things.

Pictures

Here are a few random pictures. Don't worry, Nikki, I'll write about my weekend. Nikki likes to tell me to "write about this in your blog!" She was mad that last time I was all angry. Well, I'm sorry if my car broke down and it ruined my whole week after that!!! No, kidding. I was just so upset about that that I didn't even want to reminisce about the weekend. So here are some pictures.

This is a horrible giganto Am. flag eagle announcing the opening of some bank in Rochester. It is huge, like 30 feet tall. My sisters and I hate it.

This is sort of what the sunset looked like today. I was sad there weren't more clouds. Usually it's better than this.

Here is more of the sunset. The sun looked HUGE and was very red.

Another one of the same thing.

I felt bad that I was concentrating on the sun, so here is the moon (or Luna, or Diana, if you will).
