Sigur Rós
Here is a streaming thing of their new album and I think you all should listen to Illgresi (weeds). It's a little over 4 minutes. I think this is my favorite song on it right now. I really like Jón's vocals on it and I think it sounds like a song from the middle ages. I have been trying to figure out the words. Without looking anything up I heard the following phrases in the song (this is making me laugh by the way)
you sleep soundly until noon, you find animals, feet, swim, grass, it shines a lot, green, we work, clothes, good day, give life, thought, light, time, home
So there are some key words from the song. :D
And here are translations in case anyone wants them. Some are in English obviously, and Fljótavík and Straumnes are both place names.
Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust - With buzzing in ears we play endlessly
1. Gobbledigook
2. Inní mér syngur vitleysingur - lunatics sing inside me
3. Góðan daginn - good day
4. Við spilum endalaust - we play endlessly
5. Festival
6. Suð í eyrum - buzzing in ears
7. Ára bátur - Something boat? I am not quite sure what it is because there are 5 words for ára. I'll ask my teacher. I thought it was river boat, but silly me, river is á or ár but not ára.
8. Illgresi - weeds
9. Fljótavík
10. Straumnes
11. All alright

Samning um Akureyri
I just finished my report on Akureyri and wanted to share it. I put a translation there too. It's a masterpiece! I'm so proud and it only took me about 2 hours to write. Kind of sad because it's basically a second grade report. Oh well. I'm still really proud of it.
Akureyri is one of the largest towns in Iceland and is known as the capital of Northern Iceland. It is located on the southwest side of Eyjafjörður and is surrounded by mountains. Despite being so far north, the climate is beautiful, especially in the summer when the average temperature is in the upper 60s (around 20 C). In Akureyri there is a public library, art museum, and Church of Akureyri. There is a nature museum, where you can learn about all the birds in Iceland and other plants and animals. The world´s northernmost botanical garden is located in Akureyri and contains many Icelandic and foreign plants. There is also a great university called University of Akureyri. At the school you can study law and social sciences, health sciences, education, or business and science. A major in computer science is taught in English. The school has a good distance learning program for students that live in Iceland and an exchange program with other universities. On a personal note, Akureyri is my favorite town in the world and I hope to live there someday. That is a great part of the reason I am learning Icelandic.
I felt a little guilty because maybe London is my favorite city, but I didn't quite want to get into that.
P.S. I received my diploma today!

Weird
Long day
Then I was drinking some green tea and I got wired. It was funny because I don't usually react to caffeine. It could have been something else in it, I guess. I'm exhausted from that stupid bug though. That was probably the hardest I've worked on something in a while, mostly because I couldn't figure it out. That was due to the fact that it was such an idiotic bug. Neither of us thought to look at what it ended up being. Anyway...
Lost season finale is on tonight!
There was an earthquake in Iceland today. I'm going to ask around at my school to see if everyone is ok. Crazy...it looks like only minor injuries but still, crazy. It was in Selfoss and I don't know anyone there, but you never know.
Oh! I got a hold of my best friend from high school, Melissa, and I am going to see her this weekend. I can't wait!! I have not talked to her literally in years. I was going to go to Nancy's because she's having a garage sale but I will be out of town now. I am boring myself with this blog entry. Good bye. BAD BYE! (Simpsons)
